A woman and her son have been arrested by the police for allegedly murdering her unemployed husband.
Elizabeth Yamoah, 42, a tea seller, at the Race Course in Accra, and her unemployed unemployed son, Festus Appiah Otoo, 22, allegedly beat up the man, Felix Appiah Otoo, 47 with a stick until he collapsed. They kept him in the house and he died three days later.
At the time of the assault, Felix was said to be drunk. The couple have been married for 25 years and have three children.
Briefing the Times on the incident, the Odorkor Division Crime Officer Superintendent Baffour Apenteng, said at about 9 pm, on September 29, Felix had a quarrel with his wife and later went out.
According to the Supt Apenteng said Felix returned home at about midnight and found the door locked.
After knocking for sometime without the door being opened, he broke part of the door, forced it opened and tried to enter the room but was prevented by his son, Festus.
Supt. Apenteng said during the ensuing struggle Felix was assaulted until he fell thereafter.
The wife and son failed to take him to hospital and kept him in the house for three days until he died.
Supt. Apenteng said a report was made to the police and mother and son were arrested.
Felix’s body has since been deposited at the Korle-Bu Hospital for autopsy.
Elizabeth and her son have appeared before the Agyabeng Court and charged with conspiracy to murder and remanded in police custody until October 12.
