President John Evans Atta Mills yesterday charged Ghana’s business community to take advantage of the investment opportunities his trip to China has generated and re-affirmed his commitment to ensuring transparency and in the utilisation of the billions of dollars expected from the Chinese government to boost the economy.
President Mills urged the private sector to quickly develop their capacities to partner the Chinese firms to explore the many investment opportunities arising from the flourishing Ghana-China relations.
“The ball is in your court,” he told a large gathering of the Ghanaian community in China, at the Ghana’s Chancery in Beijing , to wrap up his five-day state visit.
He said his government was creating the opportunities to promote the Ghanaian business sector, because “Ghana cannot be said to be wealthy if the wealth is not controlled by Ghanaians.”
In addition, he asked the business community to be responsive and live up to expectation, assuring them that government would not discriminate on the basis of political and other considerations.
He said there was a need for both the private and public sectors to emulate the Chinese example of discipline, sacrifice and hardwork which had culminated in the tremendous advancement of China.
He asked his ministers and public official to vigorously pursue development projects emanating from the relations between Ghana and China.
“Let us make sure we use the resources provided by China purposely in order to ensure successful implementation of projects.
“I want us to give the money to those who will deliver positively, and not to those who promise to deliver,” he said.
The President also urged his Ministers to work with zeal and be encouraged by the Chinese example, in their contribution towards building a better Ghana.
Dr. Kwabena Adjei, Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress urged Ghanaian business people abroad to contribute to the development of Ghana by investing back home.
