Mrs Stella Nanor, Akuapem South Municipal Director of Education at the weekend urged parents and guardians to pay serious attention to the education of their wards so that they could grow to become useful citizens.
“It is sad to note that parents spend lavishly during funerals and festive occasions to the neglect of their children’s education. It is therefore about time parents and guardians acknowledge that education is the only true legacy they can bequeath their children,” she said.
She also called on them to pay frequent visits to the schools and see how their wards are faring and be proactive in the running of the Parent-Teacher Associations and School Management Committees.
Mrs Nanor gave the advice at the Speech and Prize Giving Day of the Akraman Local Authority Basic School in the municipality.
She said government’s interventions in the education sector such as the capitation grant and the school feeding programme, had brought some relief to parents.
The Director also advised parents to visit the schools to see how their children were faring as well as attend Parent-Teacher Association meetings and to discuss their children’s welfare.
Mr Emmanuel Kofi Azaglo, headmaster, said the school was established in September 1993 with 25 pupils.
