Togbe Kwaku Ayim IV, paramount Chief of Ziavi Traditional area and member of Asogli State Council has, made a passionate appeal to the government to refurbish and restore the services of Volta Star Radio, of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and its television network for the people to receive good reception of news.

The station at Ho has gone off for more than four months resulting in the people staying without information.

He made this appeal during the closing ceremony of the Volta Region Policy Fair held in Ho recently.

The Regional Policy Fair which was a decentralized version of the national programme has the objective of bringing government projects and policies closer to the people at the grassroots.

According to him the views of over 2000 visitors to the policy fair indicate that the fair was satisfactory.

He said the fair organised jointly by the Ministry of Information and Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council (VRCC) brought the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) together with the 18 municipal and district assemblies from the region to display and explain to the people their activities, programmes and policies.

The state security services, also participated to showcase their duties, services and equipment and also educate the public on them.

The Fair was under the them: “Empowering the people as we build “Better Ghana”, with four out of the five targeted dialogue sessions on various topics that brought professionals and experts on various thematic topics that relates to the experiences, in the region.

Both the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Joseph Ameworde, the two Deputy Ministers of Information, Baba Jamal and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa officials of the Ministry of Information, Chief Executives of the MMDAs from the region as well as leaders of exhibitors expressed appreciation and satisfaction and urged that it be made an annual affair.

Mr. Amenoworde on behalf of the Vice President, John Dramani Mahama expressed appreciation to the chiefs and opinion leaders who, especially contributed at the dialogue session.

He said that issues raised at the fair should not be left unattended to, but should be forwarded to the VRCC for onward transmission to the government, for attention.

The Minister called on the chiefs, especially those who played active role in the dialogue to use their virtues to lead the region in attaining progress and development.

On his part, Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed his ministry’s satisfaction about the success of the fair, adding that “it has achieved the objective for which it was organised”.

Supporting his stand he quoted from the Bible (Mt. 5:15) “Neither do people light a light and put it under a bowl, instead they put it on a stand to give light to everyone in the house”.

He was optimistic that the people would have identified some opportunities and also established vital contacts relevant to their pursuits.
