Regional Census Implementation C'tee For Upper West

The Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. Cezar Kale has called on Members of Census Committees to make the principles of Probity and accountability their guide, by ensuring that every pesewa provided for the conduct of forthcoming census is properly accounted for.

That, the Deputy Minister explained, was the only way both government and the donor community supporting the census programme would be encouraged to support similar programmes in the country.

Mr. Kale made the call when he inaugurated a 12-member Regional Census Implementation Committee headed by the Regional Co-ordinating Director, Mr. David Yakubu here.

It would among others things educate the public on the importance of the exercise, monitor and co-ordinate the operations of district committees to ensure a successful exercise.

The Deputy Regional Minister said, “we are urging you to manage the resources that would be released to you for the census programme well.

The government as well as the Development Partners supporting the census will be interested in knowing how their resources have been used.

“For us to continue to enjoy the support of stakeholders the committees should ensure accountability and judicious use of resources that they would receive,” Mr. Kale explained.

Mr. Kale noted that the setting up of Regional and District Census Committees was to decentralise the management of the census programme for the best outcomes and urged members to work assiduously in all areas that they are assigned in the census operation.
He called for the intensification of public education on the forthcoming census to ensure it success adding, “do diligent works so that the results or outcome of the census would not be in doubt or disputed.”

Mr. Kale assured the committee that the Regional Co-ordinating Council would provide the needed assistance in the implementation of the 2012 Census programme to make it a success.

The Officer in-Charge of Field Operations of the Ghana Statistical Service, Mr. David Komba said the census was very important for the proper management of the country’s resources adding, “If you cannot measure then you cannot manage.”

He said census was a vital tool of ensuring that democracy works and called on committee members to do a great job to come out with credible results.

Mr. Komba urged the committee to ensure that filed workers get to every house and settlement to record their numbers and characteristics.

The Chairman of the Regional Census Implementation Committee, Mr. David Yakubu on behalf of his colleagues pledged to work hard to ensure that result of the census are acceptable to all.

Mr. Yakubu said the census was a very important national exercise and called for support from all Ghanaians to make the exercise a success.
