Plans are underway to upgrade all the regional airports and improve the infrastructure at the Kotoka airport to meet international standards.
The Minister for Transport, Alhaji Collins Dauda, made this known in a speech read on his behalf at a Dinner and Awards night to climax the 25th anniversary of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority on Friday.
Speaking on the theme, “25 years of aviation safety and security”, Alhaji Dauda acknowledged the need for workers to be motivated to bring out their best.
“Workers all over the country should enjoy good service conditions and interpersonal relationship in their place of works which to help bring good outcome and benefits”.
He retreated government’s commitment to ensure the success of the Ghana Aviation Training Academy (GATA), which he said is important to help focus on staff development and training.
“I believe the introduction of the GATA course will enable the authority satisfy the demand of people who want to have in depth knowledge in aviation”.
Alhaji Dausa commended the authority for their achievements adding that, “your success in raising the standard of aviation in the country is remarkable”.
The Director General of the GCAA, Air Cdre Kwame Mamphey said the authority will continue to focus on staff development and training to increase the skill levels of employees.
That he said is evident in the introduction of the GATA course which will improve the training skills of personnel.
He added that the course will also cater for the training of aviation personnel from outside Ghana.
He acknowledged the contributions of the past Director Generals of the authority and the staff for the commitment towards the authority.
“These people have all contributed their quota and the ripple effect of the employment and related benefits of the society cannot be underestimated”
He said the GCAA employs over 340 people who are highly skilled in their in their various fields
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority since its inception as an authority in 1986 has provided employment for over two thousand Ghanaians on full time and contract basis.
It is to provide safe, secure, efficient and effective aviation regulation and air navigation services in a friendly and environmentally responsible manner.
Past director generals and staff who have worked for the past 39 years were still in office were awarded for giving off their experience to the younger ones.
In all 108 staff members and four past director generals were awarded.
