Princess Anne Interacts With NSS Volunteers

Her Royal Highness, ed with some volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Voluntary Service Organisation (VSO) in Accra.

The interaction, among others, was to find out from the volunteers at first hand the impact of their field work particularly as some of them work in deprived and distressed communities.

Princess Anne, who was accompanied by her husband, Admiral Tim Laurence, was visiting the country as part of a two-nation tour of West Africa, commended the volunteers for accepting to work for the sake of mankind and the nation.

She also commended the two organisations for their astuteness in building the capacities of young people to voluntarily serve their nation.

The Director of the NSS, Vincent Kuagbenu, expressed his appreciation to Princess Anne for visiting the National Service Secretariat and also interacting with the volunteers.
He said the visit of Her Royal Highness would go a long way to further strengthen the existing relations between Ghana and the United Kingdom.

Mr. Kuagbenu said his outfit had had good relations with VSO for the past eight years had been and added that the two bodies, continue to join forces to build the capacities of the youth in volunteer services through which, over two million pupils at the basic education level had benefited in line with the Millennium Development Goal Two, thus, achieving universal primary education.

Besides, he said, the Secretariat was not only encouraging the youth to go into agriculture but also introduced them modernised farming.
Mr. Kuagbenu stated that the NSS was also drafting a training manual for personnel in the Cadbury cocoa processing field.

The Acting Country Director of VSO, Ibrahim Peghouma, said the two institutions were committed to building the capacities of young people so that they would become responsible leaders in future.
