President John Evans Atta Mills has directed the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to release three million dollars for the immediate rehabilitation of Ferry ‘A’, a ferry crossing from Kete-Krachie to Kojokrom on the Volta Lake.
Ferry ‘A’ has been grounded for over seven years as a result of which transportation o the Volta Lake had become cumbersome and unbearable for the inhabitants of Kete-Krachi in the Volta Region, and Kojokrom in the Brong-Ahafo Region.
A letter dated March 4, 2010 from the Office of the President, sighted by the Times, directed the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to treat the matter with all urgency.
A source told the Times that the rehabilitation of Ferry ‘A’ was in a fulfillment of a promise by the President to the people of the two communities during the 2008 elections campaign run-up.
It said the Finance Ministry had gone far with the processes for the release of the funds.
When contacted, the Minister of Finance, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, confirmed the story.
