Teachers have been urged to effectively teach using multi-media in this Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Distance Learning era.

This is believed to help students bring up their best performance academically which in a long way help build quality human resources needed for the national development.

This was contained in a speech delivered on behalf of the Vice-President Mr. John Dramani Mahama at the 72nd Speech and Prize Giving Day of the Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC) Legon.

According to him, this is the age of ICT and if teachers stick exclusively to old teaching methodology they will not be endearing themselves to the student and obviously student will lose interest in that particular subject and perform poorly.

He said, quality education denotes content and appropriateness in terms of usage of facilities and supporting logistics to turn out individuals who in addition to making good grades will provide exemplary leadership skills in the various fields of endeavor.

Parents should also not just provide the basic needs of their children-food, clothing, shelter and good health care but also see their wards through education to the highest level, he added.

The Vice-President said, the School Based Assessment (SBA) should be comprehensive and should challenge students to apply data to decipher a complex situation and solve challenging problems.

He said comments that teachers pass Vis-a viz a student’s scores should encourage and assure the student that he or she can still improve the performance.

This way, teachers will be able to develop students with an insatiable but a healthy longing for excellence through an unwavering quest for research and originality, he added.

The Vice-President also announce government’s support through the ministry of education to complete the construction of a two storey dormitory block, and a six-unit classroom block which is under the Public Investment Programmee by December this year.

The headmaster of the school, Mr. Africanus Kwame Anane used the occasion to outline some of the challenges the school is facing.
He said, accommodation for staff and students is a major challenge to the school.

Also the school library which he said is the school’s engine room unfortunately only takes 80 students at a time which makes many of the students struggle to obtain seats and as such denies over 1800 students assess.

Again, Mr. Africanus stressed that, the school needs about 100 pieces of computers and accessories for the extra computer lab the school is creating.

The school would welcome more structures to accommodate staff and students and a library complex that can accommodate many of the students and staff for serious academic works, the headmaster appealed.

The 1985 year group presented awards to students of the school who have excelled academically over the years.
