THE Police are hunting for Samuel Adjei, a top player of Geowags FC, for theft.

Adjei, a striker of the Adenta-based second division side, was alleged to have bolted away with nine mobile phones in the early hours of Sunday, August 28, this year – two of which belonged to the club’s Team Manager – Price Mark Oduro.

The seven other phones were for his team-mates. He also vanished with some jeans trousers, shirts and GH¢30 belonging to the players.

Briefing the Times Sports in Accra yesterday, the Geowags Team Manager said the suspect together with his colleagues were in camp preparing for a tournament when the theft occurred.

With the plot apparently well-orchestrated and cut out, Adjei was said to have woke up about 12.30 am when his team-mates were deeply asleep, collected their phones and melted away.

The theft was only detected when one of the victims decided to make a call somewhere around 1.30 am and could not find his phone.

Stunned, the player was reported to have screamed out: “I can’t find my phone … where is my phone?” The repeated bawls awakened his other colleagues who found to their utter shock that they had also been robbed.

Adjei, who was with the team in camp all day until the players retired to bed, was however, nowhere to be found. Initially, the players thought Adjei was playing pranks on them, but that thought was to fade with time as a search mounted for him yielded only proved to be a ‘wild goose chase.’

He is believed to be hiding in Tema New Town or in Agona Swedru in the Cental Region.

President of Geowags FC, Mr. Thomas Awuku, described the incident as “incredibly shocking” since the suspect was a player with a lot of potential to become a great future star.

Adjei, a former player of Sporting Hikari – an Eastern Region second division outfit, joined Geowags this season and has been on target for his new club a couple of times.

The case has been lodged with the Adenta Police.
