The body of an unidentified man was found in a pit at the Kwadaso under-pass of the Sofo-Line Interchange Project site in Kumasi, on Friday.
This brings to five the number of people who have drowned in the same pit at the project site, this year. The first incident occurred in February when an unidentified man fell into it and died.
Suntreso police have confirmed the latest tragedy to the Times, saying they one still investigating the matter, the fact that there one some knife marks on the body.
In May, three little boys died when they fell into the pit while they were playing football around the area. The ball fell into the pit and, in their attempt to retrieve it resulted it, drowned in it.
When the Times got to the scene, the body of the young man had been retrieved and deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital’s morgue.
Some of the residents on the area said the deceased was not a known face in the area and suspected he was passing by to some place.
Others claimed that he might have been killed by some people and thrown into the pit.
Most of the residents blamed the China Geo Engineering Company which is executing the project for negligence thus, leaving the pit uncovered. There was no official of the engineering company to talk to at the site.
However, when the Ashanti Regional Director of the Urban Roads, Mr. Theophilus Quaye, was contacted he stated that “the area where the pit is located has been barricaded and it would be difficult for someone to walk into it.
He appealed to the public to exercise restraint while the police investigate the matter.
