The people of Brenu Akyinim in the Komenda- Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) municipality of the Central Region on Saturday performed a ceremony to destool the Odikro of the area, Obrepong Kow Mensah due to his alleged disrespect for the elders.
A new Odikro, Nana Ekow Sekum, 49, has therefore been nominated to occupy the stool in accordance with tradition.
There was jubilation in the community as Nana Sekum was introduced to the community.
Addressing the gathering, the Ebusuapanyin, Nana Kojo Samankwamu, alleged that Obrempong Mensah had violated and desecrated the laws of the land over the years and that the community could no longer tolerate his actions.
He explained that instead of uniting the people, Obrempong Mensah was rather causing disaffection and disunity among them.
Nana Samankwamu said that Obrempong Mensah had refused to heed to the call of the elders whenever he was summoned to meet them.
That action, he said, was a violation of the oath he swore to during his enstoolment years ago.
Nana Samankwamu stated that the action to destool the Odikro was based on the consensus among the people, saying, “we are happy that community has united to this common course that would see the development of this town”
He, therefore, urged the Odikro to return any regalia belonging to the state since he ceases to be the legitimate chief of the area.
He appealed to the people to unite and support the new chief to ensure the transformation of the area.
