Obuasi Ashgold and Berekum Chelsea will come face to face this afternoon at the Kumasi Baba Yara Stadium with the sole aim of clinching a finals ticket for this year’s FA Cup.
Having missed the league title, coach Yaw Acheampong and his charges are bent on appeasing the Obuasi fans with the FA cup title but must scale the Chelsea hurdle today.
Coach Acheampong lifted the FA Cup as captain 19 years ago for the club, the first and only time Ashgold went near the glittering trophy and believes the time to win it as a coach is now.
Expectation is high among them as they face Ghana’s sole representative in continental club competition, Berekum Chelsea, a team that ended their unbeaten run in the second half of the just ended Glo Premier League.
The Miners are also hunted by a blow dealt them by the Berekum representation, a painful 1-0 loss that denied them the league diadem.
Chelsea seems impregnable with their performance in African competition but their output in recent times suggests otherwise, the more reason why Ashgold have vowed to go for the jugular.
The Blues again have the advantage, having beaten Ashgold in their last two meetings and look set to repeat the dose unless the Miners pull something extraordinary from their sleeves to shock Chelsea.
