NPP Members Must Be Ashamed Of Themselves - Andanis
A spokesperson of the Andani royal family, Dr. Yahuza Gomda has condemned the New Patriotic Party’s position that the NDC government is handling the late Ya-Na’s murder case in an arbitrary and subjective manner.
In an interview with Citi FM on Tuesday, April 27, Dr Gomda described NPP’s press conference as “shameful” and “disgraceful”.
He accused the NPP of failing to take action when the late Ya-Na was murdered during their tenure.
On Monday, April 26, the minority New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament held a press conference and slammed the government for failing to fulfill a campaign promise to set up a special investigative commission to look into the murder of Ya’Na Yakubu Andani II and some of his followers.
According to the NPP, the Mills administration is rather engaged in a selective application of the law with the arrest of known NPP supporters who belong to the Abudu gate.
In an interview with Citi FM the Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Suhum, Mr. Opare Ansah said the manner in which the arrests were made was completely arbitrary and against the Human Rights of the people arrested.
The Dagbon conflict is a protracted chieftaincy conflict between the Andanis and the Abudus. The conflict is a very sensitive issue which has claimed the lives of many people over the past years.
The Regional Security Council arrested a number of people in April in connection with the murder of the Ya Na.
However, the NPP has accused the government of bias, alleging, those arrested were members of the country’s largest opposition party.
But the spokesperson for the Andanis said the government’s procedure in arresting the people was right and justified.
He said the minority is trying to paint the murder of the Ya’Na with the colours of the NPP.
“The minority is trying to make the killing of Ya’ Na have the colours of Red, Blue, and White…but crime don’t have colours and I am sorry they should be ashamed of themselves. Human rights have been there and Human right is still there so they shouldn’t come and talk to us about Human Rights. If they knew Human Rights existed they would have cared about the death of the Ya’Na.”
Meanwhile the spokesperson of the Abudus, Dr Ziblim Idi in a reaction said he supports the position of the NPP. He said everybody whether Abudus or Andanis has Human rights and must be treated as such.
According to him nobody’s fundamental rights must be violated the way the suspects rounded up by the Security Council have been treated.
“I hundred percent associate myself to the Minority, human rights are natural rights whether someone is picked up for the murder of the Ya’ Na or not. They have not even charged them for murder. You have to treat them equally until proven guilty. So for Dr. Yahuza to assume that the NPP is wrong for asking for Human Rights to be respected, it is a joke.” he said.
