Dear Mr. President,
Greetings, and Congratulations on the occasion of our beloved Nation`s 53rd Independence anniversary. I was so much inspired watching the Parade under the command of the Youth.
Yes, Bravo, Youth of Ghana! I was a former Platoon Commander of my alma mater Cadet Corps, so I took some time off my books to see how Great and Strong the Cadet Groups will perform before the Nation.
It was just splendid as was reported. I saw your wonderful smiles, and hearty cheers. Your acknowledgement and appreciation Speech will surely empower these future leaders.
Yes, they are the best assets, and human resources for the Better Ghana Agenda. We the Youth of Ghana shall always continue to pray to the Almighty good Lord to give you the wisdom, health and success in your vision for the Nation.
Father of the Nation, as a concerned youth, I made some observations at the parade grounds which I find were very disappointing and wish to bring to your notice for action. Several kids who participated in the march past fell down unconscious and had to be revived.
Even though some children are not used to physical activities in the hot weather, these children who could not stand on their feet were not sick in any way.
It was obvious that hunger and thirst knocked them off their feet.
One boy was revived with a pack of ice cream, a piece of meat pie and a sachet of water, thanks to a lady at the scene whom I later learnt was a teacher from the locality. Surely, this confirms the universal saying about “the wonder content in a lady`s bag”.
At another location I saw some school children taking it cool from a fire tender truck on standby duty at the parade grounds.
A smartly dressed Fire Officer regulated the water discharge tap for the kids, who gulped their stomachs full of this free drinking water.
Cautiously, I have seen many of these fire tender fetching water from an open drain near my residence.
Even though these kids had quenched their thirst and they were happy, the content of the fire tender truck could not be guaranteed. Yes the children had drunk “something”.
Yes, something (“biribi” – in Akan ) whose health effect them only God knows. Surprisingly, a few moments later I saw the Fire Officer moved to a Police vehicle nearby and grabbing a bottle of mineral water, free of course, to balance himself.
This means that the State provided some logistics for the duty Security Officers at the parade grounds, but nothing for the School children who were rather in action.
Yes, nobody cared for the welfare of these children we refer to as the future leaders on such important State function. Father of the Nation this is something.
to think about. I trust that in future the organizers will be up and doing. Most of the School children walk long distances to participate in such State activities for the love of their country.
These kids add a lot of colour on all occasions, they do not expect any reward from the State, and Drinking Water could have meant a lot them. Sadly as a matter of fact, the majority of these high spirited children come from the “Home No Good” avenues.
Mr. President, I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for instituting the National Day of Prayers and Thanksgiving Service.
I received your Special Invitation Card, so I was present and I thank you Sir. Yes, as the Good Lord showers his blessings over us everyday, it is a good thing to give thanks accordingly.
I was made to understand that due to programme and time constrains my proposed Religious Drama could not be included. I believe that the progress and prosperity of this Nation depend on the Youth.
The Nation must prepare the Youth for the future, but never in any way try to prepare the future for the Youth. Unless the Spiritual foundation of the Youth is solidly built, Education and Development become useless.
Imagine a rich Nation made up of undisciplined and immoral Youth, criminals, drug addicts, corrupt officials, thieves etc. God forbid! Not for Ghana!! I firmly believe that the Lord God of Ghana, is different from the God of Haiti, Santiago Chile and even the Vatican.
Remember, when God spoke to Moses, He did not introduce himself as God the creator of the Universe. Yes, the God of Israel indeed. Moses knew God well, but he sought for confirmation. The Great I Am, had good reasons to be Himself at any place and at any time, to achieve and work His purpose out. God loves Ghana!
At the Prayer Service grounds I made some observations which if adopted, I believe could bring improvement in future planning for such important National function. There were too many empty seats as the size of the congregation was below expectation.
People were so late to the function. Those who arrived earlier got bored in their seats with the monotonous musical being provided. Two or more musical groups playing and singing variety gospel music could have been more exciting.
Ghanaians love to have some form of comedy or entertainment to precede such State gatherings. Yes, my Religious Drama supported by the University of Ghana Musical Group could have been the best antidote to keep the congregation alive.
It was when your arrival was announced, that I saw more people coming from all directions rushing to the grounds. I was amazed when I heard a man instructing the wife and daughter to switch off their cell phones, because President Atta Mills always dishes out surprises whenever he speaks to the Nation. Thank God the people like you and adore you.
Before, during and after the function I spoke to a few people to seek their opinion and impression on such Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service for the Nation. Most of them lauded the idea for such regular National togetherness in prayers and thanksgiving. Some of them called for more publicity.
Others suggested the planning and timing to be for a morning prayer service. Majority of the congregation went to their normal places of worship earlier in the morning, before coming to the Independence Square for the State function.
A few of the people I spoke to, looked tired, exhausted and some rather hungry.
According to others, they usually go home every time after morning church service for their lunch. I believe that if these comments from the public are well noted and properly digested, the next occasion shall be more popular and the good citizenry shall all be there in their numbers accordingly.
Mr. President, the fact that our Nation Ghana is deemed to be a God fearing Country does not make the citizens righteous. We are all aware of the open indecency, indiscipline and the numerous bad religious practices and evils in the Country.
Sadly and painfully to the people, the worse offenders are the Pastors and Preacher men we follow, submit and pour our faith, hopes and trust as Men of God. My very concern for your action stems from the effect on the Youth.
Even though God is watching all of us from a distance, when He comes down, He will call at your doorstep first as the Head of State for questioning. Christianity is getting off track. The Church is getting rotten.
The Churches are no more winning souls for Jesus Christ. The Lord`s House of Worship and Prayer had been turned into the Devil`s cottage, Sex and Love Nests, Fashion and Wealth display Pavilions, Fraudulent Business Malls. Nobody is his brother`s keeper. This is a big shame which is not good for Ghana. You are the solution to bring a change. Save the People now.
Father of the Nation, you will agree with me that, the People of Ghana must live by Ethical Righteousness, positive attitudes and Character.
That, the House of the Lord shall be a place where we shall come from the North, South, East and West in Oneness to have Communion with God. So therefore, my call for Religious Discipline in the Country should have your blessing.
Yes, and another Yes! This could be termed A Presidential Initiative, or any other suitable initiative. Your Office shall then appoint a Committee or a Co-ordinator.
I wish to suggest that some of the bad religious evils, practices and activities be designed for popular publicity in the form of Slogans, Posters, Cartoons etc. for radio, television, the print media, and mobile floats.
By this method, we shall make pictures of types of indecent dressings, anti-Christ jesters, Un-Godly utterances and post them at vantage places, especially at the entrances of all Markets, Places of Worship, Lorry Stations, Campus of Education Institutions etc.
When this my suggestion is approved I shall mobilize the Student Forces and Youth Groups to be part of this Religious Crusade.
I shall also assist your Co-ordinating Officer to solicit sponsorship from the Corporate Society logistical support. The University of Ghana and the Ghana Institute of Journalism shall assist in the planning and designing of the posters for the Crusade.
Mr. President, as much as you love God, I believe that you will not sit to see the Nation go astray. Deliver us, Father of the Nation. Speak and it shall be heard loud and clear.
Building the spiritual foundation for the Youth is a task that must be done. This is my humble contribution on behalf of the Youth, for your Better Ghana Agenda. Your prompt action on this matter shall surely be appreciated. Thank you. God Bless our Homeland Ghana, and Bless you too!!
Sincerely yours,
Priscilla Otomo
