MASSIVE corruption has been detected in the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Volta Region.
Mr Joseph Amenowode, the Volta Regional Minister, told a meeting of the Volta Region House of Chiefs on Wednesday that “the institutions are characterised by ghost names, persons employed in more than one institution, persons taking salaries for no work done, persons using fake certificates and actual stealing of funds in the NHIS”.
He said in the “School Feeding Programme, for example, due process was not followed in the selection of caterers and in many cases there were no health checks before they began work”.
Mr Amenowode said state lands were also sold by the Regional Lands Commission “sometimes under duress or threat by government officials.
“In all these cases of malfeasance, the region is the ultimate loser and this would not be allowed to continue. We will do everything to sanitise the system in the region”, he said.
Mr Amenowode said the Lands Commission in the Volta Region had been instructed to provide records of all state lands in Ho disposed off within the past four years.
“Similar exercises would take place in all districts soon”, he said.
