After hundreds of pretty ladies turned up for auditioning at the Golden Tulip Hotel two months ago, the stage is now set to decide who emerges Miss ECOWAS Ghana 2010 this month.
The audition, which involved interviewing the prospective contestants, came out with I5 finalists who are to do battle for the crown on August 27 in Accra.
The winner of the contest and the first-runner up will represent the country at the upcoming annual Miss ECOWAS Peace Pageant slated for the Sierra Leonean capital, Freetown, on November 27, this year.
The Miss ECOWAS Beauty Pageant is a continental beauty contest involving contestants from the 15-member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) organized by jointly by the 702 Productions Limited and the ECOWAS Commission headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria.
This year’s event, themed Peace Building and Development, will see 28 contestants from each of the participating countries contest to be crowned the 2010 Miss ECOWAS Queen, who will also become an ambassador to champion the Youth Peace Initiatives of the ECOWAS Commission for a period of one year.
With each country expected to present a contestant, the organizers have a challenging task at hand to settle the ‘lucky’ two to represent Ghana.
A press release issued in Accra on Thursday indicated that the prospective winners must have beauty, intelligence, eloquence and a great personality with a good educational background.
“Being Miss ECOWAS Ghana is no easy task. The winner needs a lot of courage and confidence, so that when she eventually represents Ghana, she will know what picture to paint about the country,” it stated, adding that the pageant “is committed to promoting peace in West Africa and increasing awareness by focusing on Small Arms and Light Weapons issues.”
