Officials of Ghana Premier League side Mighty Jets have confirmed to SuperSport.com that the club is for sale.
Media reports made the rounds on Sunday evening were confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer and the Public Relations Officer.
The action is financially motivated, as the club who only debuted in the Premier League last season is finding operational costs crippling. Jordan Anagbla, the club´s CEO explained the problems.
“It is a simple challenge of money. The economics of running this are hundred per cent against us. We have tried several business models but you know that small clubs like us find things hard.
“And like I have said elsewhere, if anyone knows a buyer, let us know”
Getting sponsors has been “next to impossible because we just came into the league and cannot guarantee the visibility that other teams can give”, said Dan Larbie, the club spokesperson.
“We also just barely escaped relegation last season on the final day so admittedly we do not look very appealing.”
The club is wholly owned by Abubakar Nallah, whose drug charge is pending in the courts and has put the team into further disarray. Larbie explained the urgency for money is predicated on their desire to build a stronger team before October 9 when they play current league champions Berekum Chelsea.
With the new season´s kickoff date looming, “frantic efforts are being made to find money from someone or some businesses.”
