MEDICAL Equipment and other gadgets worth over GH¢500,000 procured for teaching and learning at the Navrongo Community Health Nurses Training School in the UER since 2006, cannot be used because of lack of theatre space to store them.

The equipment including sterilizers refrigerators medical consumables, models (torso) medical beds and trolleys have remained sealed up in their containers.

This was disclosed to Times by Mr David Amalba Ayinne, Principal of the school, who said furniture and other facilities for lecture halls have also been left in the span t the vagaries of the weather.

The principal explained that the school which was established in 2002 moved from temporary premises at Navrongo to its new campus in 2006.

Mr Ayinne said the school with an initial intake of 50 now has a student population of 300 using two small lecture theatres.

Although there are sufficient reference books, the present library is capable of hosting only 20 students at a time whiles most books remain in their boxes due o lack of space.

The Principal, expressed gratitude to the government for putting up the new campus, but appealed for a hostel for the boys who commute daily from downtown Navrongo ten kilometers away.

The school also needs a bigger hostel for the females, more lecture halls and staff, the accommodation. Presently, he said he and his tutors drive 54 kilometres from Bolgatanga daily to school.

Despite these constraints, Mr David Ayinne said the school scored 100 per cent passes in the Nurses Final Certificate Examination in 2006, placing first in the country.

In 2007, it recorded 99.8 per cent and 77.6 per cent in 2008.
