For escaping from the Ankaful Prison, where he was serving a two-year jail term for stealing, Kwame Antwi, 24, has again been sentenced by a Cape Coast Circuit Court to an additional 12 months imprisonment.
The court, presided over by Mr. Justice Samuel Asare Nyarko convicted Antwi, on his own plea of guilty to the offence.
With the two sentences , Antwi would now serve months in jail.
Antwi told the court that he escaped, to visit his wife and a sick child.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Francis Kingsford Ockom said that Antwi who was among three other convicts sent to work on the prison farm on June 16, this year, escaped from the hands of Sergeant Agbeve Guy Favour who was supervising them.
Antwi was later arrested at his hide out at Twifo Hemang in the Hemang Lower Denkyira District of the Central Region and handed over to the prison authorities at Ankaful, who turned him in to the police for prosecution on the charge of escaping from custody.
