The Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors of Ghana has elected Mr. Edward Kwao Amanor as its news President.
At its Annual General Meeting held at Ho last week the association also elected Mr Timothy Fiattor and Mr Eric Tsah as first and second vice-Presidents respectively.
Other elected officers were Gabriel Nana Marfo (Treasurer), Mr David Abrokwa (assistant treasurer) and Mr George Grant (Organiser).
Naana Balerkie Kpentey I, Nana Obeng Yeboah and Mr. G.G.V.K. Amenyihe were elected as Trustees with Mrs Agness Ofori, Mrs Elizabeth Fayah and Charles Agboklu as co-opted members.
The council of Elders is made up of Nene Kupualor Besey, W.E.O. Apalu, Samuel Obeng and H.F. Newman.
In his address, the new President promised to collaborate with the banks and the insurance companies to look at the issue of collateral when securing loans.
Mr Amanor said he would begin talks with the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing on ways of building the capacities of local contractors.
According to him there are plans to incorporate a new company which will look for larger contracts and sub-let to members of the association.
He also said as a way of motivating the contractors to do good works, a “Construction Week” would be instituted to honour hard working contractors.
