The Burns and Plastic Reconstructive Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has received medical equipment worth GH ¢ 22, 500 for the treatment of patients who have suffered various burns.
The equipment, comprising 20 pieces of Jelonet, 50 pieces of Batigras and 30 Bactraziney were donated by Reha Medical Group Limited, a humanitarian company, following the recent gas explosion at Ashiaman which claimed about three lives.
Presenting the items to the hospital, the Executive Chairman, of the Company Mr. Harry Sintim- Aboagye, said the organization was touched by the unfortunate situation hence the gesture.
He said due to the discovery of oil and also the increasing demand of gas, there was the need to prepare the department for such an eventualities.
The Director of Medical Affairs at the hospital, Professor Afua Hesse who received the items, cautioned the public to exercise great caution in the handing of old gas cylinders.
She said because of the scarcity of gas in the country, some drivers had resorted to using unorthodox means of transferring gas from one cylinder to another, in order to carry on their activities.
“This however leads to explosion and injuries to people, “Prof. Hesse noted.
She said that, the Reconstructive Department needed more equipment to carry out its operations adding that currently the department needs about 30 monitors for burns patients but has only nine.
She called on individuals, organizations and other philanthropist to support the hospital.
