The cheque, which was received by the Vicar General of the Archdiocese, Very Rev. Fr. Captain Francis Adoboli during this year’s Feast Day celebration of St. John the Baptist at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Adentan, was raised through a fundraising/dinner dance organized last December.

The members also made a presentation of GHc1,000.00 to the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church towards their development projects.

Another cheque for GHc1,500.00 was presented to the Archbishop to support the formation of Priests in the Archdiocese.

The donations formed one of its cardinal principles KSJI to do charity works.

This year’s Feast day’s celebration, which was under the theme “Truth and Martyrdom,” brought together a good number of members, including their Cadets and Junior Auxiliaries from all the Commanderies and Ladies Auxiliaries in Accra and Tema.

The Youth Centre which is valued at approximately GHc11.5 million-Centre is anticipated to have the following facilities when completed: Resource Centre, Church, hostel, Director's residence, Matron’s residence, service area, parking space, security post and outdoor games.

The project as at present has seen the completion of the Director’s residence, dormitory block for 120 persons, a dining hall and kitchen as well as fence wall, all were put up through the efforts of the local Churches and donors outside the Church.

Other areas that are yet to be constructed includea resource centre, which would consist of the administrative block, dining hall, Chapel, theatre, syndicate rooms, among others.

When completed, the Centre is expected to host meetings, seminars, workshops, short-term courses for fees to generate fund.

The project, which is being constructed through self-financing of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, would be opened to both the Catholic Church and the general public for its usagewhen completed. It would be made available to government institutions to organize courses and meetings for their employees at affordable fees.

It is purposefully situated at an area that would create a centre of attention for the many industries and Trade Unions in Tema and around, and as such, they would be encouraged to organize human development programmes for their workers and hold board meetings for a fee.

Colonel William Adjei, the Commander of the Third Regiment, believed that the move to support the Youth Formation Centre is one of the tenets of the Order, stressing that it would go a long way to boost the education and formation of the youth who are the future leaders.

He assured that members would continue to organize dinner dance and fundraising activities to raise funds towards to the project until the Center is complete.

Colonel Adjei, therefore, appealed to the members to contribute their quota in diverse ways to see to the legalization of the project.

Delivering his homily, the Vicar General reminded the Knights and Ladies that if they stand for the truth, martyrdom will be theirs, and that nothing should deter them to back out in their fight for truth and justice, saying that if they decide to back out it means that they are not friend of Christ.

Fr. Adoboli said there was the need for them to discipline their bodies to enable them to stand the test of time, especially in this period of social vices that have engulfed the whole world.

The Vicar General commended the members for the role they play in the Church as soldiers of Christ and urged to keep the spirit so as to draw more souls to Christ.

The occasion was used to inaugurate the St. John the Evangelist Commandery #596 band.

The band is available to the Church for her programmes as and when the Parish Pastoral Council requires it. It is also available to the Battalion, District, Grand and Supreme Subordinate Commanderies of KSJI as may be required. It will also be available to any Commandery, Parish or individuals who may need it.

The setting up of the band is not a profit-making enterprise; however, upon usage it would be required to contribute a reasonable sum towards its cost recovery and improvement.

The Social Committee of the Districts used the moment to inaugurate the 2011 fundraising/dinner dance and was hopeful that the patronage for this would be far higher than last year’s event, emphasizing that not less than GHc50,000.00 should be realized for the same project.
