Teddy Osei, leader of Osibisa, the Ghana-led Afro-rock group is seen here blowing his for the first time in the bands long career launched its latest album in Accra.
The album titled ‘Osee yee’ outdoored under the Golden Stool label.
The event which took place at the launch + 233 Jazz Club drew a large crowd of ardent followers of Osibisa, friends and music lovers of diverse backgrounds.
The launch was performed by Dr Adrian Oddoye, a medical practitioner and devoted fan of the great band whose hit songs are well know throughout Africa, Europe and elsewhere.
The cheerful patrons exploded in thunderous applause when Carlos Sakyi, the popular musician and a leading advocate of the fight against the abuse of the intellectual rights of Ghanaian musicians in a glowing tribute, praised Osibisa, describing them as the No. 1 music group of the world in the 70’s, whose music he said is not only timeless but evergreen.
Carlos claimed that it was the band that gave inspiration to late Bob Marley and the Wailers of blessed memory and others like Steve Wonder.
One patron described Osibisa as an institution whose corridors has seen the coming and exit of high profile artistes.
Members of Osibisa present for the occasion included the leader and founder, Teddy Osei, Sol Amarfio, Bessa Simmons and Kofi Ayivor, the celebrated percussionist who thrilled the audience with their exciting brand of music.
Kwame Yeboah, London-based keyboard wizard, Nana Yaa the much sought after songstress, Solomon Narh and trumpeters Kpakpo and Emmanuel all gave a good account of themselves on that starry night by tossing in a repertoire of Latin American and R & B hits.
The auction sale of the album was well patronized after Richard Prempeh an ardent fan and an arts and entertainment director opened the purchase with an offer of GH¢500.
Others then followed spontaneously with handsome offers eager to return home with copies autographed by Teddy Osei himself.
