Gold Fields Ghana, leaders in sustainable Gold mining in Ghana, will from this month , implement fully its Owner Maintenance Policy at its Tarkwa mine site on all its load and haul mobile fleet.
A release issued by the company, said all the necessary processes and structures had been put in place for the implementation to commence.
It said until now, MANTRAC, dealers in heavy duty equipment such as the Caterpillar brand, was the company servicing and maintaining the load and Haul mining equipment and machines of Gold Fields Ghana at both its Tarkwa and Damang mines.
“Outsourcing heavy mining fleet maintenance will in future be restricted to drilling experts (Sandvik Mining) and Excavator experts (Liebherr),” it said.
The statement said 239 employers of Heavy Mining Equipment (HME) been recruited with 186 sourced within the catchment areas of Gold Fields (Tarkwa and Damang).
The move to source from within the catchment areas of Tarkwa and Damang, it said, was in line with the company’s commitment to provide jobs for skilled local youth in the area.
“The newly recruited employees have already undergone an induction programme implemented by the Gold Fields Training and Development Centre, to orientate them on Gold Fields Ethics, conditions of employment, health and safety procedures amongst other subject areas,” it said.
The Human Resource Manager of Gold Fields Ghana, Martin Van der Merwe, stated that Gold Fields Ghana had confirmed its commitment to sustainable gold mining by promoting the socio-economic development of the communities.
