The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has cautioned vehicle users and the public to desist from keeping petrol in plastic containers in their homes.
A statement issued in Accra yesterday by its Public Relations Department said in view of the recent fuel shortage in some parts of the country some people were buying and keeping petrol in plastic containers in their homes, noting that such practice was dangerous and could lead to fire outbreaks.
“Management wishes to caution that the practice is dangerous since petrol is highly flammable and could endanger the lives of people when it comes in contact with naked fire as a result of improper storage,” it said.
The GNFS reminded the public to immediately contact the service on the following numbers: 192 or 021-77 2446, in the event of any fire outbreak for assistance.
