Globacom Limited, the Official Sponsor of the national football teams of Ghana has congratulated the Black Stars after the team’s inspiring victory over the U.S.A, resulting in Ghana’s progress into the quarter finals of the ongoing FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
In a statement issued by the telecommunication giant's Communications Department, Globacom said the feat attained by the Black Stars makes Ghana only the third African country to reach the quarter final stage of the World Cup after Cameroun and Senegal.
The statement described the Black Stars as worthy sons of Africa and encouraged the team to remain resolute against all opponents and be inspired by the massive support and confidence reposed in them by the company and the rest of the Africa continent.
‘By their achievement, the Ghana Black Stars have demonstrated a rare pedigree as worthy sons of Africa and it is our prayer that the young men will continue to uphold the hopes and pride of millions of Africans on the continent who are looking up to them for even greater achievements in this tournament.
‘By their sterling performance, they have indeed succeeded in re-igniting the popular ambition of Africa to win the first World Cup on an African soil and towards this noble end, Globacom pledges to continue to support the Black Stars in every way possible to enable the team fulfill this continental dream’. The statement said.
It went on to encourage the team to go all out and take further steps to write the name of Ghana and the continent in the history books in the upcoming quarterfinals clash with Uruguay. ‘We believe that the dream is attainable and that our team (the Black Stars) has shown strong resolve and great discipline thus far. We are confident that their efforts will be rewarded with a semi-final berth after securing victory over Uruguay.’
