The fans at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi had their money’s worth when they witnessed a night of great boxing prowess as Ghanaian boxers engaged their Nigerian counterparts in World Boxing Organization(WBO) title fights, on Saturday.

Under the umbrella of Nana Adjei Ampofo’s Union Promotion and sanctioned by the Ghana Boxing Association, the night was another occasion for the Ghanaian boxers to rein supreme over their Nigerian counterparts with Kojo Issah, Sarfo Tyson both prides of Ashanti, snatching the WBO Africa interim middleweight and WBO Africa bantamweight championship titles respectively.

Though both fighters accomplished their missions with 11th round stoppages, it did not come very easy for them.

Issah boxed well but was frustrated for not being able to knock down his opponent, Suleman Amani, popularly called Nigerian Assasin who resorted to pushing but managed to get the Nigerian on the canvas in the third, fifth, eight rounds.

The Nigerian fired a powerful left shot to the jaw of Issah in the ninth round that saw the gum falling from Issah’s mouth. Had he followed up anything could have happened to the Pride of Ashanti.

Just as the bell sang for the 11th round to take off, the Nigerian raised up the arms to discontinue the match.

‘’It is okay, I am not tired but it is okay’’, he told the fans who, at a point were rooting for him judging from the skills he exhibited in the sixth, seventh and eight rounds against the Ghanaian.

For Tyson, he needed a hefty blow to the face of Sunday Adjayi to send him sitting on the floor. He managed to get on his knees but with wobbling legs, he was rescued by refree Roger Barnor who held him and stopped the fight in the 11th round.

Fans poured onto the stage with shouts of joy for the knock out.

The night would forever be remembered with the bout between the two Ghanaian nationals on the card, Michael Barnor, called the 'Slow Poison' of the Attoh Quarshie gym and Alfred Tetteh, the 'stinging Bee' of the Sonia Boxing gym, in Accra.

It was interesting watching the two combatants pound for pound contest for the WBO Africa Bantamweight belt.

The Bee indeed did not spur his opponent as he stung him in the third round with powerful blows to daze his opponent.

Barnor sprawled on the floor, tried to get up but it was the referee May Mensah Akakpo who saved him from falling off the rope. Barnor suffered the same fate in the second round as he nearly went out of the rope when Tetteh pummeled him with a left hook.

On the other undercards, Dzodzi Kermah technically knocked out Stephen Enu in the third round in their welterweight contest, while George Ashie beautifully upstaged Emmanuel Quaye who fell flat on his stomach in the third round in their lightweight contest.

In the other contest Theophilus Tetteh was beaten by Nii Akrofi for the super welterweight with Joshua Barnor also being knocked out by Alfred Quaye in the fourth round in the Bantamweight contest.
