A 14-member committee tasked with the responsibility to plan for the Conference of African Ministers of Public and Civil Service (CAMPS) has been inaugurated in Accra by the Minister of State in charge of Public Sector Reforms, Mr. Alhassan Asong.
The committee will also see to the coordination of the All Africa Public Service Day.
The committee is made up of Mr. David Djanie from the State Enterprises Commission, Mr. Nanabanyin Pratt from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, Mr. Sal Doe Amegavie of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Mr. Bernard Mfodwo of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Others are Mrs. Christian Gockels of the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Mr. Yaw Brobbey- Mpiani of the Ghana Health Service, Mr. Robertson Allotey, Public Services Commission, Mrs. Josephine Carboo, Ministry of Information and Mr. Victor Mantey; Ministry of Education.
The rest are Mr. Yaw Brobbey, Ministry of Health, Mrs. Esther Pokoo –Aikins, Public Sector Reform Secretariat and Mrs Osae of the Local Government Service.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Asonka noted that the Public Service constitutes a critical factor in governed and national administration and stressed the need for serious attention to be paid to it
He said government machinery could only be on a high performance index to promote positive results for policies and programmes if there was an ineffective public sector.
Mr. Asong said the conference of African Ministers of Public Service which will meet every two years under the auspices of the African Union will deliberate and address issues affecting public governance on the continent.
That, he said, was to create capacity within the public administrations of individual member states to ensure delivery of effective and efficient services to their citizens.
He therefore charged the committee to provide leadership for specific thematic areas and guide programmes deliverables and activities.
He said the committee should also develop a Plan of Action for the implementation of specific thematic areas.
Mr. Asong noted that the task ahead of the committee was enormous but expressed the hope that members would use their experience, expertise and knowledge to surmount it.
Mr. Robertson Allotey who spoke on behalf of the committee thanked the government for the confidence reposed in them and assured of their dedication and commitment to deliver.
