EDDIE Donton and Mona Myers-Lamptey both of Achimota Golf Club won the Tafo Gold Club annual presents Puttey competition held at Tafo at the weekend.
The weekend’s invitational event according to the captain of the club Dr. F.K. Oppong lived up to expectation as it received a remarkable attendance from golfers from the Royal Club of Kumasi, Achimota and elsewhere to also join the host and president Prince Kofi Amoabeng, the CEO of the now UT group of Companies to mark his birthday.
The Prince in his appreciation presented the ultimate winners of the men’s and ladies ‘A’ and ‘B’ groups with a putter each in addition to their trophies.
While Eddie Donton took the men’s group ‘A’ prize with 71 net beating Earl Ofori Attah from the Royal Golf Club and Frank Adu Jnr, of Achimota both with 72 net and the Achimota Golf ‘Capo’ Mike Aggrey with 75 net, Mena with 73 net bcat Victoria Adjei 85 net to take the ladies group ‘A’ event.
Deputy Captain of host club Tafo, P.A. Sersah with 71 net led two other club mates, Daniel Awuah 71 net and K. Safo Debrah 73 net to sweep the mens ‘B’ group play while Nyantakyi won on count back from M. Kronberg both with 76 net each in the ladies section.
Club captain Oppong in a brief welcome speech commended the contestants and their guests for honouring the invitation for participation.
The Tafo Golf Club he said was receiving enormous attention and recognition for its unique, serene and challenging conditions, saying the Ghana Golf Association (GGA) has penciled it as a worthy grounds for its Youth Development Programme.
He therefore called for more to join and to make adequate use of the facility.
The host and president, Prince Kofi Ameabeng in his usual calm mood commended all present for their turn out for the annual event and also to join him on the occasion of his birthday.
He commended the management of Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) owners of the facility for their continued support and maintenance of the course, personnel of the club and all those who have helped to make Tafo Golf Club, the preferred course of many golfers.
He pledged to continue his support to uplift the club to attract personalities like the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Ofori Panin Amotia who is taking golf seriously for its health and social benefits and appealed for all to help make the facility a tourist site.
