Women, especially pregnant women have been advised to desist from taking alcoholic beverages to prevent disabilities in their babies.
The Chief Executive officer(CEO) of the Ghana Organisation on Feotal Alcohol Syndrome, Ms Amanorbea Dodoo said this in an interview with the Times Women on the Move in Accra.
She said out of 10,000 babies born per month, 100 babies suffer from alcoholic syndrome.
Ms Amanorbea said some women drink strong alcohol beverages which does not help promote the health of the mother and the babies, adding alcoholism brings about mental disabilities, bad eye sight, heart diseases and many others.
She said beverage factories should label their products to enable consumers know the level of alcohol in beverages.
The CEO said there was the need thee was the need to intensify the advocacy on alcohol to educate the public on the consequences on babies.
“This situation has to be address to save our unborn babies, if we do not help them out it would be a life time disability” she added.
