TWO clinical strikes – one from the spot-kick, were more than enough to power Danbort FC to a comfortable 2-0 victory over visiting Zaytuna FC in an energy-sapping Zone 3B Division One league tie at the Nungua Town Park on Saturday.

Playing one of their finest games, the Nungua Warriors were highly motivated to snatch their first home win and zoomed into the afternoon full of zest and zeal. It took only six minutes to establish their intent when Sampson Acquah was hauled down in the area by the Zaytuna goalie.

Penalty expert Daniel Awuni stepped forward to place it far beyond the reach of the goalie to put Danbort 1-0 up.

The Zaytuna lads were utterly rattled by the early lead, but before they could settle to some gorgeous football, Danbort had doubled the advantage through Osman Yakubu who powerfully headed home from a dead-ball situation to throw the stadium into raptures.

As they headed for the break, the Zaytuna players may have talked to each other as they returned spewing pure fire but failed to break the water-tight Danbort backline until the referee’s final signal.
