Cuban Doctors In To Boost Health Delivery
The second batch of 19 Cuban doctors to boost health delivery arrived in the country on Tuesday night.
They were met on arrival by the Minister of Health Dr. Benjamin Kunbour and officials of the Cuban embassy.
This brings to 60 the total number of Cuban doctors so far that have arrived in the country, this year.
The 79 doctors from the Cuban Medical Brigade made up of Surgeons dieticians, General medical practioners and gynaecologists are expected to serve in the country’s hospital for two years after which they will be replaced by another batch.
Dr. Kumbuour welcoming the team commended the Cuban government’s efforts to help the country’s health delivery system which he said needed to be put in good shape.
He said Ghanaians are very proud of the communal spirit of Cubans and promised that the doctors will be given the necessary support to make their stay memorable one.
“We really own them a lot or gratitude because this programme has run for years and its outcome very fruitful,” he added.
The Cuban Ambassador Dr. Migul Perol Cruz, in his opening remarks said the doctors would assist in all medical fields of the country.
He was optimistic that they will get the needed co-operation to make their stay enjoyable since their profession is very challenging.
Dr. Abed Acuna, who spoke on behalf of the group, said they are ready to serve and would need the support of Ghanaians to facilitate their work.
