The chairman of the Ho Presbytery of the Global Evangelical Church, Reverend Emmanuel Barrigah has urged the leadership of churches to assist members of their congregations to identify and develop diversities of gifts endowed to them by the Holy Spirit.
“Once these gifts are identified and developed, the leaders will have to challenge members to consider how their gifts can be properly harnessed and mobilized to address particular needs in their communities, he said.
These gifts, he said, include natural, human, economic, physical, social and spiritual resources and socio-economic issues.
Rev Barrigah made the call at this year’s conference of the Presbytery Representative Committee of the Church held here yesterday.
The four-day conference has the theme: ‘Harnessing all gifts for accelerated growth’.
Rev Barrigah tasked the leadership of churches to teach their members to serve God with their skills, talents and knowledge given to the congregation to harness them for the growth and development of the church.
“Each member of the church is an asset and no one is a liability, and gifted members should be taught to support the church and the community at large,” he stressed.
Rev Barrigah observed that “growth of churches is led by visionary leaders who expect the members of their congregations to grow because they are people who believe in God and His promises, even in difficult times”.
He expressed concern about the continuing moral degeneration of the society and urged traditional authorities, religious and opinion leaders, organisations and civil society groups to help stem the tide.
Mr Joseph Amenowode, the Volta Regional Minister, challenged churches to be bold enough to prevent political leaders from going wayward.
He stressed on the need for them to focus not only on spiritual needs but on physical and spiritual needs for their congregation and society at large.
“As leaders of your various churches, you need to support and assist the government to harness diversities of resources towards accelerated growth to boost the economy, so that together we can reduce poverty in our communities,” he said.
