The James Town Police has arrested one person and launched a man-hunt for another for brutally attacking and butchering a market woman on Saturday.

The suspect, an ex-convict Sampson Annan, also known as shamawu and his accomplice, identified as Adjei now at large attacked Matilda Adama, 29, with cutlasses at about 4.30 am in order to rob her of her hand bag and other items.

They inflicted severe cutlass wounds on her forearm and other parts of her body when she resisted the attempt to snatch her bag.

The James District Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alex Asamoa –Frimpong told the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday said that Annan and his accomplice were ridding an unregistered a motor bike spotted Matilda at Asuogyaman-company limited Junction arena in Accra who was on her way to the market.

He said the two who were armed with cutlasses attacked Matilda in an attempt to snatch her handbag containing g an amount of GH¢34.00 and other items.

The Crime Officer said Matilda resisted and Annan slashed her right forearm and inflicted other multiple cuts on rest of the body.

According to DSP Asamoa-Frimpong Matilda now bleeding profusely from her cut, started screaming which attracted the attention of some taxi drivers who came to her aid.

“The suspect managed to join his accomplice on the waiting motor bike and left the scene,however,a taxi driver who witnessed the incident, it chased them and knocked the motor bike forcing them to fall into a gutter but they escaped, “he added.

He said Annan was later arrested at his hide out at Bokum in Accra.

DSP Asamoa-Frimpong said the Police have mounted a search for the arrest of his accomplice.

He said Matilda was sent to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for Treatment.

DSP Asamoa-Frimpong said Annan the suspect who was convicted two years ago for stealing will be will be put before court soon for attempted robbery.
