Airtel Rising Stars Football Competition Ends

The second season of the Airtel Rising Stars football competition ended in style at the El Wak sports stadium last Friday with the Southern sector emerging winners in the finals of the boys’ category after beating the Northern sector 1-0.

In the girls division, Inter Royals from the Ashanti Region defeated GHATEL Central by 2-1 to win the girls’ division.

The Southern Select side will now represent the nation at an Inter-Country Under-17 competition in Kenya later this year.

In addition, they took home a giant trophy, medals and souvenirs from the headline sponsors, Airtel and a cash prize of GH¢1,500. The Northern side were also presented with a trophy, medals, souvenirs and a cash prize of GH¢1000.

The Brong Ahafo region side, took the third place and went home with a trophy, medals, souvenirs and GH¢500 as cash prize.

Captain of the Southern sector team, Nasiru Nurudeen was voted the best player in the male category, whilst Black Maiden’s Captain Priscilla Okyere was voted the best player in the female category.

Airtel Rising Stars is an annual grassroots soccer initiative that offers young boys and girls the opportunity to play, compete and showcase their talent to selectors in their respective countries.
Airtel Ghana’s programme has Sammy Kufuor and Nii Odartey Lamptey, both former Black Stars players serving as Airtel Rising Stars Ambassadors.
