ADB To Assist Farmers

Mr. Ibrahim Adam, Board Chairman of the Agriculture Development Bank (ADB), has pledged the bank’s financial support to farmers, especially those in large-scale farming.

Mr. Adam said this following his visit to the Kwanim GDK Farms here, near Mame Krobo in the Kwahu North District (Afram Plains) of the Eastern Region.

He enjoined the youth to venture into agriculture since it offered a lot of opportunities and could improve their livelihood.

Mr. Adam said the bank had so far assisted the farm financially with GH˘3 million facility since its establishment and pledged further assistance to enable the farm complete the construction of its warehouse.

He congratulated the management of the farm of its role in the economy and called on others to invest in agriculture.

The farm has cultivated 450 hectares of maize out of the estimated 1,000 hectares.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who accompanied the board chairman, also appealed to the youth in the country to re-think about life in urban areas and instead resort to agriculture for a living.

He also advised heads of institutions and teachers to re-orient the minds of the children to develop interest in the agriculture, by organizing excursions to some mechanized farms.

“Most of the children have never seen any large maize farm in their life but they study agriculture as a subject in school.”

The ADB Board Chairman was accompanied by Ms Sylvia Nyante, the Head Development Finance Unit of the bank.
