The Accra West Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) on Tuesday held an awards ceremony to recognize customers of the company.
Consumers including Japan Motors, Francopat Limited, Mantrac Ghana Limited, Fanmilk, Duraplast, Blue Skies and Qualiplast were presented with plaques for paying their bills promptly at the awards dubbed “Customer Appreciation Week.”
Regional General Manager of the Accra West Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Alhaji Daudi A. Jangu said the customer appreciation week had been instituted as an image cleansing exercise and also to say “thank you to our Cherished customers.”
He paid glowing tribute to the customers of the company for their co-operation and support to the Accra West Region of ECG, saying even though customers continue to experience frequent power cuts, they continue to pay their bills promptly and said that had significantly improve the revenue of the company.
“Over the years … there have been power interruptions to your establishments which have affected your production schedules and sometimes led to waste of raw materials, yet you have still kept faith with us by collaborating and paying your bills promptly,” he stated.
“Accra West Region of ECG is not happy about the frequent outage, which is seriously affecting your business operations,” he said and attributed the problems obsolete equipment and the increase loads on the company electricity lines.
To address the problem of the frequent outage, Alhaji Jangu said the Accra West Region of ECG was constructing a 33kv overhead line from Ofankor to Nsawam, adding a new sub-station had been established at Sowutuom.
“The Accra West Region had spent over GH¢300,000 on system improvement and major transformer injections in the region to improve quality and reliable electricity supply since the beginning of this year,” Alhaji Jangu said.
The Regional Manager announced that the company had established an award package for people could “take it as a business to report on illegal connection.”
The company said people who report on an illegal connection would be given a whooping percentage of the cost which would have lost to the company, after the Loss Control Unit of the company had assessed the illegal connection.
He said the rewarding package had been in existence for a very long time but people are not taking advantage of it.
Alhaji Jangu said two people who reported an illegal connection earned GH¢2000 and GH¢3000 respectively.
The Regional General Manager commended the large consumers for their co-operation and support to the company even in the face of poor service and frequent power outages.
Earlier the companies expressed regret about the frequent outages and said it was seriously affecting their business.
They said the power cuts were affecting their machines and also increasing their cost of production.
Some of them said even though they had been transferred on dedicated lines, they still face light cuts.
They entreated Accra West Region of ECG to put to replace their obsolete equipment to reduce the power cuts.
