The Volta Regional Coordinating Council has received 1,000 school uniforms and 474,000 exercise books for distribution to needy pupils in public basic schools in the region under the government’s free uniform and exercise book policy.

At the launch of the programme at Ho, the Regional Minister, Mr. Joseph Amenowode, handed over the uniforms and exercise books to the Regional Directorate of Education for distribution to the pupils.

In an address, he asked journalists in the region to assist in monitoring the distribution of exercise books and uniforms to the pupils.

“I will like to urge the press to follow up and ensure that the pupils receive the books and the poor pupils benefit from the government’s free school uniforms.”

Mr. Amenowode warned that “the exercise books are not to be sold, so I do not expect to see any in the markets or bookshops”.
He asked the Education Directorate to give the school uniforms to poor school children.

A total of 620,000 pupils would receive free exercise books in the region and 130,000 school uniforms would be distributed to poor pupils in the region. GNA
