Members of the Discipline and Honest Clean-Up group have conducted a clean up exercise at the State Transport Corporation (STC) to rid the place of filth.

The exercise last Wednesday December 17 began at 7 am and ended at 12 pm with all food sellers within the premises participating.

In an interview with the Times, Madam Afia Serwaa, national organizer of the group said they undertook the exercise as part of the group’s objective of ensuring sanitation in all public places.

She said the group a non-governmental organization was established in 2003 and has since then been going round the country to do clean ups at public places citing the Eastern, Western, Volta , Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and the Greater Accra regions.

Madam Serwaa said the group will soon be at the Ministry of Lands and Forestry, Audit Service, Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice, Local government ending at the ministry of lands and forestry.

She expressed concern over the spate at which the mentally ill abound in the city especially at the ministries and the national theater and therefore called on the Department of Social Welfare and the Accra Psychiatric Hospital to do something about the situation.

She said the mentally ill do not only cause scare the public but also carry lots of baggage that adds to the filth the group is painstakingly trying to clear.
