SDA Church Takes Steps To Reduce Poverty Among Members

The Agona Swedru District of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church has instituted measures to help reduce poverty among its members.
These include seminars and workshops at which qualified resource persons would offer technical advice to members towards increasing their turn over.
The District Pastor of the church, Isaac Oteng-Asare, announced this at the end of a four-day annual conference at Gomoa Jukwa, near Agona Swedru. It was under the theme, ‘Mission of Hope’.
Pastor Oteng-Asare said the same programme would be held for members who are farmers to educate them on modern farming methods towards increasing their production.
He said leaders of the church had realised that the majority of the members lacked direction and simple methods needed for business management.
The District Pastor, who was posted to the district three months ago, said his familiarisation tour revealed that most of the members were living in abject poverty.
Pastor Oteng-Asare explained that the church would give the assistance as part of its social responsibility, in addition to meeting their spiritual needs.
He urged Ghanaians to accept the word of God and also work hard in order to have a better Ghana.
Pastor Richard Ntriakwa, the director of Gomoa Jukwa SDA Senior High School, admonished the young persons to desist from lifestyles that would lead them to sakawa, armed robbery, drug abuse and other vices that could affect their future.
He urged the churches and other relevant agencies to embark on aggressive programmes to educate the youth to lead good moral lives and become more responsible for national progress

I am an active member of the SDA Church for the past thirty years. It is very sad that Church runs a pioneer poverty alleviation N.G.O which effectively provides assistance to the needy the world over while overlooking it\'s own members. I can emphatically declare that I know members who attend church on empty stomach. There are instances where these members are asked to go out and solicit for funds for ADRA, the said NGO. It\'s about time the Church put measures in place to care for their own. I pray that this comment will be accepted in good faith and not seen as exposing our short-comings publicly. At seldom, it takes such measures to ameliorate the plight of the suffering in the church, Thanks.
This is long over due.I support this move 100%.

Thanks Pastor, for God giving direction and I hope others will take that kind of measures to help Other church members through out Ghana
