Five people have been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing assorted items from shops in Accra Central and the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
They are Justice Nambe, 18, Evans Dzimabi, 22, Patrick Buabeng, 19, Felix Atsu McCarthy, 19, and Joseph Narh, 21.
The Kaneshie District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Fleance Adikah, told the Ghanaian Times, yesterday, that the suspects on August 13, went on a shop lifting spree at Accra Central and Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
He said they stole items such as bags, mens shirts, trousers, perfume, mobile phones, and shorts valued at GH¢795.
Chief Superintendent Adikah said their modus operandi of the suspects was to engage the shop attendants in conversation under the pretext of buying items whilst others enter the shop and stealing the items.
“After stealing some bags from a shop at the Kwame Nkrumah the attendant saw the act and raised an alarm which attracted some police personnel and people to the scene” he added.
He said two of them McCarthy and Narh were arrested while their accomplices boarded a vehicle to Ashaiman.
Chief Superintendent Adikah said two policemen in plain cloths and three civilians chartered five motor bikes and pursued the vehicle.
He said three of the suspects were arrested, while two others escaped, adding that the police had mounted a search for their arrest.
Chief Superintendent Adikah said during interrogation they admitted the offence, and would soon be put before court.
