President John E. Atta Mills has re-affirmed his government’s support and confidence in South-South Cooperation.

He explained that it will encourage ventures that promote technology transfer, create employment and improve the living standards of the people for a “better Ghana.”

President Mills made the affirmation when a high powered delegation of Arab Contractors Company International, wholly owned Egyptian government, led by its President, Ing Ibrahim Mahlab paid a courtesy call on him at the Castle, Osu.

The delegation was accompanied by the Egyptian Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Allah Seif Mostafa Nossier and included the Senior Vice President and other directors of the Company.

President Mills further thanked the delegation for the visit and for their good intentions, adding that having just returned from Egypt he had a fair idea of their capabilities.

It is my hope that the flame that was lit by the forefathers of the two countries will continue to glow”, he emphasized.

On a lighter note, the president said Arab Contractors is well known to him as he recalled their football team inflicted a 1-0 painful defeat on Accra Hearts of Oak some years past.

Ing Ibrahim Mahlab, President of Arab Contractors International also thanked President for allowing the visit and made reference to the long standing relations between the two countries.

Their presence in Ghana since 1996 adds another dimension to the cordial relationship established between Dr Kwame Nkrumah, their daughter Fathia and Gamel Nasser; Ing. Mahlab said.

He said Arab Contractors is one of the very few African International construction companies; a feat we are very proud of.

It has a subsidiary Arab Contractors, Ghana Limited which is Ghanaian /Egyptian owned.

Ing. Mahlab added that Arab Contractors will strive hard to contribute its quota towards Ghana’s development programme, making reference to the Winneba, Swedru, Oda road, and some water projects in Tamale and Kumasi, which were executed by the company.

Today, he said some Ghanaian workers employed by the company are working in Southern African countries, in Botswana, Nigeria, and Equatorial Guinea.

On his part, the Egyptian Ambassador said most of the buildings and construction works at Sham-El-Sheik where the recent NAM Conference was held were all executed by Arab Contractors International, adding that the city is now a major tourist city.

The government of Egypt will continue to help Ghana through the Technical Assistance fund to boost Tourism, the ambassador added.
